MTV Shakedown 1
In September 2004 Unilever Ice Cream sponsored MTV Network Europe's reality show 'MTV Shakedown with Wade Robson', where dance hopefuls competed to star in R&B singer Ashanti's latest video. The show took on a 'Big Brother'-style reality format, with cameras recording the contestants as they train in a dance boot camp to win a year's contract with a top dance agency and a starring role in Ashanti's video.
Money does not have an absolute value, but one that is completely dependent on status, class, attitude and condition at one given time.
You are drawn to this shiny coin, through its holes you can see what you are purchasing while on the other side you become aware of your reflected image: a reminder of the value you attribute.
The Royal Mint supported me whilst at the Royal College of Art London to produce these bespoke £5 coins.
For this simple but effective set I played everything on these pendant strips of beads, ranged around circular structures and then illuminated with a variety of lights. This created very interesting reflections and light play.
