MTV Shakedown II
Following the first edition success of this programme, in September 2004 I got to work under creative director Marcus Blee to art direct also the second edition. The show takes a 'Big Brother'-style reality format, with cameras recording the contestants as they train in a dance boot camp to win a year's contract with a top dance agency and a starring role in Ashanti's video.
Money does not have an absolute value, but one that is completely dependent on status, class, attitude and condition at one given time.
You are drawn to this shiny coin, through its holes you can see what you are purchasing while on the other side you become aware of your reflected image: a reminder of the value you attribute.
The Royal Mint supported me whilst at the Royal College of Art London to produce these bespoke £5 coins.
The set consisted of two main spaces: the boot-camp training room, which is based all around a modular sytem of perspex panels; and the main stage which is made of an interlocking system of LED screens of various shapes and sizes, projecting abstract graphics all around the dancers.
